Where Montrose is, and how far we come

Montrose is the City's Super Neighborhood 24, Neartown/Montrose: bounded by US-59 on the south, Allen Parkway on the north, Taft, Bagby and Main on the east and South Shepherd on the west, in ZIP codes 77006 and 77019 (City of Houston, Super Neighborhood 24). It is two to three miles from downtown.

What a move in Montrose looks like

Few neighborhoods in Houston mix housing the way Montrose does: 1920s fourplexes, garage apartments behind houses, new mid-rise buildings on Westheimer and Montrose Boulevard, and single-family streets in between. The City's own description notes historic districts sitting beside new development. A Montrose move is often a second-floor walk-up with street parking, or a mid-rise with a freight elevator and a leasing office that wants a certificate of insurance. We do both.

Parking, streets and rules to know

City historic districts in the Montrose area include First Montrose Commons, Avondale East and West, Audubon Place, Courtlandt Place and Westmoreland (City planning list). Parking meters in Houston are enforced Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., unless a sign or pay station says otherwise (ParkHouston), which matters on Westheimer and the streets off it. Read the signs before a truck sits for three hours.

The neighborhood's civic body is Neartown, which meets on second Thursdays at 7 p.m.; the City's page lists thirteen civic associations under it.

Cardboard after a move here

Houses and small buildings of eight units or fewer can get City curbside service; larger apartment buildings use private haulers, so ask your building where cardboard goes (City of Houston Solid Waste). The Westpark Consumer Recycling Center at 5900 Westpark (77057) takes cardboard Tuesday to Saturday, 8 to 5, with a limit of four visits a month.

Yes. Garage apartments and fourplex walk-ups are a normal Montrose delivery. Stairs with no elevator are $10 per flight, charged once per address, and the dollies do the rest. Delivery and pickup are free in 77006 and 77019.
